Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 16, 2026

Run the Board: EM Sim is an iOS app for emergency medicine board exam preparation developed by James Napolitano. This policy describes how your information is collected, used, and protected when you use Run the Board.

Information We Collect

Run the Board does not require account creation, login, or registration. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any personally identifiable information.

Case Data and AI Processing

When you run a case, the conversation transcript is sent to Anthropic's Claude API through a secure proxy server (Cloudflare Worker) for AI-generated responses and debriefs. Transcripts are processed in real time and are not stored or logged on our servers. Anthropic processes this data subject to their privacy policy and their usage policy, which prohibits training on API inputs.

On-Device Voice Processing

Run the Board includes voice dictation powered by WhisperKit. All audio recording and speech-to-text transcription occurs entirely on your device. No audio data is ever transmitted to any server or third party. Temporary audio files are deleted immediately after transcription.

Local Data Storage

Case history, scores, and app preferences are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data never leaves your device and is deleted when you clear your case history in Settings or uninstall Run the Board.

Device Identifier

A random device identifier is generated and stored in your device's Keychain for rate limiting purposes. This identifier is not linked to your identity and is not shared with third parties.

In-App Purchases

Purchase transactions are processed by Apple through the App Store. Purchase validation and entitlement management are handled by RevenueCat. We do not have access to your payment information. See RevenueCat's privacy policy and Apple's privacy policy for details.

Third-Party Services

Run the Board uses the following third-party services:

We do not use analytics services, advertising networks, tracking technologies, or cookies.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Data is disclosed to third-party service providers (listed above) only as necessary to operate Run the Board.

Data Retention

We do not store conversation transcripts, voice recordings, or personal data on any server. Local data on your device persists until you clear your case history in Settings or delete Run the Board.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data. Since Run the Board stores data locally on your device and does not maintain user accounts or server-side data, you can exercise these rights directly by clearing your case history in Settings or deleting the app. For any additional requests, contact us at the email below.

California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete it, and the right to opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your rights, contact us at the email below.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, your data is processed in the United States. By using Run the Board, you consent to the transfer and processing of your data in the United States. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place through our third-party service providers' data processing agreements.

Children's Privacy

Run the Board is rated 18+ and is intended for medical professionals and students. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
